Big plays hurt at Chambersburg

The Lions trip to Chambersburg didn’t stay to the plan as four big plays by the Trojans made all the difference in Friday’s 28-19 loss.

Chambersburg scored three long touchdowns, including a 70-yard touchdown pass and 96-yard run for another score. A blocked punt led to another Trojan touchdown.

Lions coach Jesse Shay said the team will have to recover from dropping a winnable game.

“It’s one thing when you lose when you get dominated. We made so many mistakes,” he said. “We did not play well enough to win.”

Shay added that the conditions weren’t too bad considering, but both teams had to deal with a wet ball. Rare struggles in the running game did not help.

“We threw the ball 31 times during the game. We had no choice. We could not run the ball,” he said of the offense. “Defensively, there were three plays.”

The biggest surprise may have been the second half, which saw little scoring after a 21-19 halftime deficit. "I thought we’d be in for a slugfest,” said Shay.
