Lions run over Bobcats in all phases

The Lions got touchdowns from offense, defense and special teams, plus played held the opposing offense in check in a tremendous effort at Northeastern Friday night.

That all-around play helped Red Lion improve to 2-1 after a 48-13 win past the Bobcats.

Although it was  a slower start than the previous week, the Lions led 14-0 late in the first half when junior Reid Anderson stepped in front of a Northeastern pass and took it 40-plus yards for a back-breaking touchdown.

Jeffrey Nyameyke retuned a punt for a second-half score and the rout was on as Red Lion built a 34-0 lead.

Coach Jesse Shay said the defense was able to set up the offense as Anderson added a second interception and the Lions recovered a Bobcats fumble.

"Offense got short fields a lot of the night. We had big interceptions that set us up on a short field, a fumble that set us up short field," he said. "It was nice that all three phases clicked because all three compliment each other."

Randy Fizer threw for two touchdowns, connecting with Chase Evans and Devante Dennis, plus ran for another score. Back up quarterbacks Ryley Knaub and James McBride also ran for touchdowns.

All-in-all, Friday was a much cleaner played game than last week.

"We didn't have many penalties and didn't put the ball on the turf or throw a pick," said Shay. "That was two of the things we talked about in practice."
